About HMS

Hinsdale Middle School is proud to be a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School. We believe our Blue Ribbon Award reflects our commitment to our students’ growth not only intellectually but also as emerging young adults and community members. We treat our students as we would treat our own children—with empathy, support and boundless enthusiasm. Go Spartans!

Students have attended school at the intersection of 3rd Street and Garfield Avenue in downtown Hinsdale since 1886. It was first the site of an all-boys school in the late 1800s, Hinsdale High School in the 1920s, and the former Hinsdale Middle School from 1976-2018. In January 2019, the tradition continued as District 181 opened the doors of the current Hinsdale Middle School at 100 S. Garfield Ave. Thanks to the successful passage of a referendum, the building process began in November 2016.

When students enter the doors of HMS, they find a curriculum that goes above and beyond state and national standards, a rich encore program, and extracurricular options that help students find and develop their individual interests and passions.

A Message from Principal Cory Burke
It's a true honor to serve as Principal of Hinsdale Middle School. Before stepping into this role three years ago, I spent nine years nurturing young minds as a Language Arts teacher, followed by eight years as an Assistant Principal in District 54.

During my journey in education, I've come to deeply believe that every single student possesses the potential to learn and grow. I'm passionate about cultivating strong, supportive relationships between students and teachers, setting high yet achievable expectations, and fostering a genuine partnership with our amazing community. I firmly believe that these cornerstones are essential for creating a vibrant learning environment where all our students can thrive.

I'm incredibly proud of the remarkable accomplishments of our students and the dedication of our dedicated staff at HMS. I look forward to continuing to work alongside them, collaborating closely to provide an engaging and enriching educational experience for every single student.
